Specifications

Wear layer

View details

The floor is built with a top layer of durable European oak and a plywood backing. The floor is available in different wear-layer thicknesses to suit your needs.

Wear layer

Beveled edge

View details

The floor has a beveled edge, i.e., a slightly rounded or slanted transition between each plank. This is achieved by milling or sanding a small bevel along the plank edges before they are laid and finished.

A beveled-edge floor is ready for installation straight from production, saving time and costs since no additional finishing is needed. The bevel highlights each plank’s character and creates a more structured, traditional appearance.

Beveled edge

Finish

View details

The floor is treated with hardwax oil, which penetrates the wood and forms a protective layer. This treatment makes the surface resistant to wear, water, and stains while preserving the wood’s natural grain and color.

The surface can be refreshed as needed with new oil.

Finish

Underfloor heating

View details

Plank flooring can be installed floating. Chevron and herringbone must be fully glued down. We recommend glue-down installation for all patterns.
Gluing down provides better heat distribution with underfloor heating. You can replace individual planks if damaged, and you can mount kitchen units directly on glue-down floors.

Installation

View details

We always recommend full glue-down installation for all floors. Chevron and herringbone patterns require glue-down, while plank floors can technically be installed floating.
Glue-down offers many advantages: quieter footfall, no door thresholds across continuous areas, level transitions, and no aluminum trims. You can even avoid skirting boards for a clean, minimalist look.
Glue-down ensures optimal heat distribution from underfloor heating with no air gaps. You can replace individual planks if damaged and install kitchen units directly on the floor—something not possible with floating floors.

FAQ

What are the pros and cons of a solid wood floor?

View details

A solid wood floor consists of the same wood species all the way through and is almost indestructible. It can be sanded many times. A solid wood floor is a natural product, which means it moves. When humidity rises or falls beyond the normal range (which is 35 to 65% relative humidity, as often happens in Denmark), you should be prepared for the boards to shrink or expand. This reaction can leave smaller or larger gaps, shrinkage cracks between the boards, or create a so-called washboard effect.

Can solid plank floors be installed floating?

View details

Solid plank floors must not be glued in the tongue-and-groove or installed as a floating floor, because each board must be able to move individually. Solid floors must either be screwed down or fully glued to a firm subfloor.

What is the difference between a glue-down and a floating installation?

View details

Floating (svømmende) installation is the most common way to lay wooden floors because it is quick and easy. Fully glued floors, however, offer many more advantages. Fully glued floors mean the wood is glued directly onto a solid subfloor (concrete/chipboard) (chipboard). This gives a completely different resonance and therefore much better acoustics in the room.

Advantages of a fully glued floor:

  • Much better acoustics in the room (feels more solid).
  • You can run the floor in one piece–e.g., through door openings.
  • Avoid thresholds in doorways and aluminum trims at tile transitions.
  • Option for a joint at transitions to any tiles.
  • Greater stability.
  • Better heat conduction with underfloor heating.
  • Install the kitchen and other heavy furniture directly on the floor.
  • No need for skirting boards; a flexible sealant joint along the walls is sufficient.

The difference between floating and fully glued floors can be experienced in our showroom.

Should I choose oiled or lacquered floors?

View details

There are pros and cons to both finishes. Lacquered floors cannot be treated or repaired locally, which is a drawback. Another drawback is that lacquered floors become worn/scratched more quickly in high-traffic areas, such as hallways, by the sink and stove in the kitchen, or at the entrance. The advantages of lacquer are that the floor requires very little maintenance in the first years. Many people feel that lacquered floors look a bit artificial. We recommend using hardwax oil, which is both durable and requires less maintenance in the long term.

Oiled floors need maintenance every year, whereas hardwax-oiled floors only require it every second or third year. The surface can easily be refreshed and repaired locally. We recommend choosing an oiled surface with hardwax that is naturally cured. It has most of the advantages.

Can I have my floors treated or maintained by you?

View details

Trækompagniet offers to take care of the maintenance of your floors. We will come and treat your floor whenever you wish, and we can provide ongoing treatments as needed. It is very important to treat your floor correctly from the start. Trækompagniet has its own floor-care products that guarantee your floors will last a long time.

Do your floors tolerate underfloor heating?

View details

Yes, all our floors are suitable for underfloor heating. Most of our floors are oak, which is actually one of the best wood species to choose if you want underfloor heating beneath a wooden floor.

How long does the process take from design to a finished floor?
